How is knowledge created?
At their wedding Akan-women get a saying-tree from their mother. It represents the life cycle of a woman. The saying-tree has different objects attached. Each object stands for a saying. In my work I refer to the Sprichwörterbaum, but the sayings had to be found. The work was exhibited for one year and during that time each person, who encountered the sculpture Sprichwörterbaum, could think of a word/connected words/sentence/image that came to her mind in connection with the sculpture or a special part of the sculpture. The recipient could then write or draw the word/image on a piece of paper. Out of the sheets I made a book that accompanies the Sprichwörterbaum.
Detail of the technique: Textile is sewed by hand to the wood and cushioned.
